Wednesday, December 18th: Merry Christmas!
Hello everyone! Today’s lesson is about Christmas cards.
In Japan, many people send nengajo to family and friends at the end of December. Did you know that other countries have a similar custom?
People send Christmas cards in the UK, the USA, Australia and many other countries from December 1st to December 25th. The tradition started in the UK in 1843. Christmas cards have designs on the front like Santa Claus, penguins, snowmen, a Christmas tree, and reindeer.
In the card, people write a message. Here are some examples:
- “Wishing you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year”
- “Season’s Greetings”
- “Happy Holidays”
- “Happy Christmas”
Why don’t you try to write a Christmas card this year?
